Our Story
Smith Music Academy was founded in 2024. We pride ourselves on helping our students fall in love with music and playing their instruments. Our unique and practical 3-pillar approach makes learning music fun, engaging, and effective.
We not only promise to improve our students' playing, but we also aim to truly transform their lives—boosting confidence, problem-solving skills, discipline, social abilities, and more—through the power of music.
Our Mission Statement
To positively and dramatically improve student’s life through music!
To ensure students build an amazing relationship with music, in which playing music makes them happy, improves their self-confidence, and releases stress and social anxiety.
To develop our students into lifelong musicians who learn a set of skills and songs that they can use for the rest of their life to connect with friends, family, and themselves.
To provide a positive and inclusive community where students feel part of a family of motivated musicians.

Virtual 1-to-1 private lessons, $300 per month for 30-minute sessions
Virtual 1-to-5 group lessons, are $200 per month for 50-minute sessions.
Virtual Mariachi Violin Repertoire Lab 1-to-many group lessons, are $100 per month for 50-minute sessions.
Tuition is never prorated for missed lessons. Tuition does not include any retail teaching materials such as books or instruments. Students are responsible for their instrument upkeep and repairs.
Attendance & Average of Four Lessons Per Month
Your lesson program includes a set number of classes that you can attend each month. You will be booked into these sessions after your Trial Session and you will receive weekly email reminders via our Mymusicstaff.com booking system. On your chosen lesson date, please do your best to arrive on time to receive the full benefits of your scheduled class.
Monthly tuition is based on a 48-week year. We are closed for four weeks for holidays. In the long months, you will get five lessons, short months such as November and December, you will get three lessons, and most months you will get four lessons. The tuition is the SAME each month; i.e. we don’t charge you more when you have five lessons, and we don’t charge you less when you have three lessons in a month. This makes everyone’s accounting easier.
Summer Vacation
The Smith Music Academy operates year-round and does not close for the summer. We are happy to offer unlimited makeups for our students, and they are held on the weekend. If you are taking a month off for vacation and want to resume the next month, your payment is still due on the first of the month to reserve your lesson space. The lessons for the month you miss can be made up when you return from vacation.
Cancellations and Makeups
If a teacher misses a lesson, the Academy will promptly reschedule with the student. In the case of school closure due to severe weather or power outages, lessons will also be rescheduled.
If a student is unable to attend a lesson, they must provide at least 24 hours' notice to receive a makeup credit. Makeup credits expire 30 days from the date of issue. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice will not be eligible for a makeup credit.
The Academy offers weekly group makeup classes every weekend. These classes are grouped by age and skill level. To join a makeup class, contact the Academy to reserve a spot.
If a student does not have access to their instrument at home during a scheduled lesson (e.g., forgot it at school), the lesson will be rescheduled as a group makeup class.
Discontinuing Lessons
Every student here is on a month-to-month basis. To discontinue lessons and to discontinue charges to your account, fill out the withdrawal form before the 15th of your last month. We do not prorate tuition for the last month’s lessons. Students will be responsible for their last month’s tuition whether or not they attend lessons.
Open Door Policy
Parents are always allowed to sit in on lessons. We have an open-door policy for lessons.
Injuries
Parents, legal guardians of minors, student and adult students waive the right to any legal action for any injury sustained on resulting from normal lesson activity or any other activity conducted by the students or their siblings before, during, or after lesson time, including hearing loss or hearing damage.
Virtual Lessons
Please note that your lesson day and time will remain the same. The academy is not responsible for any studnet connection issues resulting in the loss of lesson time. Please give as much notice as possible that you will be attending tardy. Know that it can take up to 3 minutes to get the virtual link connected. Reach out to the academy immediately with any complications during your scheduled lesson time.
Online Learning Portal
Sound Slice and My Music Staff are our supplementary online learning platform that offers you 24/7 access to digital lesson content and course materials. While the regular price for these services is $30 per month, it is included at no additional cost as part of your membership.
If your child is unable to attend their regular lesson, they should work through the assigned course material in place of the missed lesson. Additionally, students are encouraged to explore and complete courses and lesson modules at their own pace.
Pandemics & Major National Disasters
In the event of future lockdowns due to pandemics or national disasters that prevent us from conducting face-to-face lessons, we will transition to live online lessons via Zoom. If you choose not to participate in these online lessons, refunds will not be provided. However, we can extend the validity of your credits beyond the standard 30-day expiration period.
For security and online safety, all students must log in with their full name displayed and keep their camera on to verify attendance. You acknowledge that Zoom sessions may be recorded for security purposes, lesson content creation, and quality review.
Changes to Lesson Policy
Smith Music Academy reserves the right to make changes and revisions to the lesson policy at any time. Changes take effect 30 days after an updated lesson policy has been submitted to the student body via email. It is the student and parent/guardians’ responsibility to keep up to date with the lesson policy.
